A follow up family history course to the ‘Getting Started’ and ‘Next Steps’ courses. This course, Researching your Family History: The Journey Continues, is designed to develop further the research begun on these previous courses. So what were your ancestors up to before 1837?
It is highly desirable that students have attended the ‘Researching Your Family History: ‘Getting Started’ and ‘Next Steps’ Courses, or have some knowledge of basic genealogical materials.
You will continue to focus on ‘putting flesh on the bones’, and sources before General Registration(1837): schools and education; the professions; crime and punishment; elections and poll books; parish registers; the parish chest; non-conformists; migration, census substitutes and common pitfalls and include a visit to Cornwall Record Office.
The course aims to foster the desire to research family history; enable participants to use genealogical documents to obtain relevant information and record it in a meaningful way and encourage participants to use primary evidence in their research.
